1 in 200 web users are still using Internet Explorer

Updated:

In this week’s edition of “things that surprised me about the state of the web,” browserslist reports that 0.6% of global web users are still using Internet Explorer (and 0.5% of users in North America). IE has been out of support for almost 2 years and is a pretty big security risk. Furthermore, I would be surprised if most modern web applications work on IE given they typically compile to target modern browsers (and there are gnarly layout bugs known with modern CSS features like flexbox).

I’m guessing these users are mostly in corporate or government environments that have not been able to make the switch yet to a more modern browser. Whatever the cause may be, this long tail of IE usage seems problematic.
